Reply to: Metacognition is the process of an individual monitoring their own memory and how they use metaknowledge to process information and control behavior (Koriat, 2007). Simplified, metacognition is how one controls information processing to enable learning and implies control over these processes, which causes memory. According to psychology research, it also includes what some know about memory and one’s memorial capacity (Koriat, 2007). Memory function can be influenced by one’s belief or knowledge of their own memory (Guerrero-Sastoque, Bouazzaoui, Burger & Taconnat, 2021). The control of learning directly impacts memory as memory is a result of learning. This metacognitive regulation, the ability to control thought/information processes, then, would cause one to possibly decide what becomes memory, and what does not. For example, when I want to memorize a Bible verse, or other information, I use specific techniques that my mind has adopted to store information. Through planning, repetition, and review, I can control when, how, and what I memorize. Thus, metacognitive regulation allows one to store needed information, while possible filtering the unnecessary.

Psychology developed in the U.S. from several different perspectives; the first was the acquisition of viewpoints from European perspectives. Gestalt psychology is based on understanding the whole behavioral phenomenon instead of analyzing the individual components of behavior. Psychoanalysis is a psychological theory initially developed by Sigmund Freud through inductive reasoning and qualitative analysis of case studies. Quantitative scientific support for psychoanalysis is lacking. Sigmund Freud spent much of his life developing a viewpoint of consciousness through his work in treating individuals with mental illness. American views of psychology emerged as a unique viewpoint; people like William James, John Dewey and James Cattell provided their own perspectives on psychology. Humanistic psychology also emerged as a school of psychology in part as a reaction to psychoanalysis and Behaviorism (we will cover in ). Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning. The common experience of acute pain does not lead to an understanding of chronic pain. AS such, many of us cannot even imagine what living with chronic pain can be/feel like. For the purpose of this board, interview someone (e.g., a family member, friend, colleague) who has a chronic pain syndrome. Based on the course content (articles within the pain interventions module) and the following article, discuss the biospsychosocial factors that play a role in their pain experience, making sure to assess how specific aspects of the attention, interpretation, and coping dimensions play a role in their level of pain-related impairment. In addition, also assess and note whether they report receiving care that follows a patient-centered/psychologically oriented approach (as described by these authors). Finally, provide at least two suggestions for changes in their current treatment regimen (if applicable) that might improve the treatment they are receiving as well as their pain-related quality of life. You are doing therapy with a 20-year-old client (Jeff) who was referred for therapy as one of the conditions given by the probation office. Jeff is on probation for assault and possession of illegal substances. This is his second offense. He is the youngest child in a single-parent family. He lives with his mother, who has always tended to be frequently away from the home between working two jobs and dating, even when he was still young. Jeff does not feel loved by anyone except his friends on the street. He seems very overinvolved or “wrapped up” in self-pity because of his absent father and uninvolved mother (per his perception). He can’t hold a job for longer than a few weeks, because he doesn’t really care about the job, and he has no plans for his future. How would you conceptualize Jeff’s problems from the perspective of an Adlerian/individual psychologist? What would you say is causing his concerns? Which Adlerian therapy techniques would you use to help him? Why did you choose those techniques?

# 8 Discussion 1 due 11/19/2019 – $15.00 Termination For the first part of this discussion, address the following: Think ahead about the processes you will go through to terminate treatment with your clients at the end of the quarter. How will you consider your clients’ experiences with endings, as you plan for your own termination with them? How will you assist your clients to make a transition to a new counselor, or make plans for other services or resources they may need after they end their therapy with you? Think of the relationships that have ended in your own life. In what ways might these terminations affect the closure of your cases? How will you prepare to address any feelings or countertransference issues that emerge during termination with any of your clients? Are there any rituals or other specific interventions that you might include as part of the termination process? How do these interventions align with the theoretical approach you are using with these clients? How will you know if they are effective?

For this assignment, you will write your research questions. Research questions represent the purpose of conducting the study, and well-stated research questions drive the investigation and the implementation of the study. Beware of poorly-stated, ambiguous research questions which can muddy the investigation and make it difficult for the reader to decipher the intended research. In quantitative studies, research questions are most often descriptive, correlational, or comparative, focusing on describing the distribution of variables, the extent of relationships among variables, or differences within or between groups. In qualitative studies, the research questions are generally broad in nature, focusing on exploring or describing how or why. the relevant sources on developing research questions. the Developing Research Questions presentation. what research questions might be relevant for your dissertation. This week’s discussion touched on changes in perception regarding psychopathology in response to shifts in societal attitudes toward specific behaviors. Now, let us look critically at treatments in general. A number of treatments for currently diagnosable disorders have been discontinued, such as trepanning and lobotomies, because they were discredited and are now considered crude and/or barbaric. A number of disorders have been completely removed from diagnostic manuals and their corresponding treatments have been discredited and discontinued. For example, the treatment known as conversion therapy or reparative therapy for lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals is known to be ineffective and even harmful. In this -word journal entry, you will consider current treatment methods (e.g., electroconvulsive therapy, exposure, and response prevention). Choose a current treatment method and comment on what ways future researchers might consider this current treatment barbaric or crude. Explain why you chose to comment on this treatment. What would need to happen for current acceptance of this treatment procedure to change? What are the ethical implications involved in using a questionable treatment option?

The news is rife with stories of corporations and other organizations breaching contracts, both written and unwritten, with employees. Business leaders may behave unethically but expect absolute honesty and high performance from subordinates. Companies may limit work hours or vacation days and other benefits while increasing workloads. Despite clearly defined ethical codes, guidelines, and mission statements that promote ethical and fair treatment of employees, many organizational leaders commit ethics violations that, in turn, affect employee motivation. In general, perceptions of fairness and justice can have a powerful impact on employee work motivation. According to Colquitt, Wesson, Porter, Conlon, and Ng (2001), employees’ subjective perceptions of justice in organizational settings are classified into the following four types: a brief description of the (Wells Fargo)organization that you selected and the ethics or justice violation associated with the organization. Then, describe two factors that might have contributed to the ethics or justice violation. Choose which of these you believe the primary factor is and explain why. Then, explain how this primary factor might have influenced employee motivation.

Organizations are intricate and complex entities comprised of individuals who are just as complex. Understanding organizations requires examining a host of unique perspectives and theories, many of which you have explored throughout this course. These perspectives offer new insights about organizational behavior, and new insights allow for meaningful application. As an I/O psychologist, it is essential that you understand the interdependence of individuals, organizations, and society, as well as the impact of internal and external influences on the changing nature of the workforce. At the center of I/O psychology are the following elements of sustainable development—social, economic, and environmental factors. These elements highlight the unique role that I/O psychologists play in shaping public policy both in the U.S. and internationally to promote and influence social change. For this Discussion, consider organizational behaviors that you think may be changing or that require change and how these changes can benefit employees and team dynamics. an explanation of insights that you gained about organizational behavior. Watch the film starring Michael Douglas to see the effects of anomie or strain and relate the film to research by Merton, Agnew, and other strain theorists. Analyze how the lead character’s behavior demonstrates these theories. According to rational choice theory, law-violating behavior is the product of careful planning and thought processes—the concept of free will is thus introduced. Anomie (theory) results when socially defined goals are mandated but access to legitimate means is stratified by class and status. The result is a lack of norms or clear social standards. Strain (theory) is the emotional turmoil and conflict caused when people believe they cannot achieve their desired goals through legitimate means. After you have analyzed the lead character’s behavior in terms of anomie and strain theories, extrapolate this analysis to the group you are studying for your final project. Review the Anomie and Strain Theory Case Study Scoring Guide to understand the grading criteria for this assignment. Submit your paper as an attachment to the assignment area. Your paper should meet the following requirements:

Substance Abuse – What about the family/friends/significant others? Are they in a crisis? Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance in the United States. Unless family members make adjustments, the effects of alcohol and drug abuse penetrate well into the family unit and will eventually begin tearing the family apart. Often, this adjustment manifests itself in enabling (trying to help out of guilt) and co-dependency (learning how to get needs met in an unhealthy relationship). The abuser/dependent certainly needs intervention and is likely in a crisis. However, this forum focuses on the family members/friends/significant others who are also experiencing a crisis. Define enabling and co-dependency. Give a clinical example of each and share how you would intervene as a therapist with each issue. Make sure you use documentation to support your answer. Post should be at least 250 words required to use at least 2 peer-reviewed journal articles sources for post. Current APA formatting is required for all citations. Textbook Chp 9-11 Kanel, K. (2015). Throughout the course of your academic career, you will be asked to conduct research to support the assertions you make in papers, presentations, and projects. Sometimes getting at the material you will need is fairly straightforward, while other times the research process forces you to get a little creative in seeking out (and finding) the types of source material that will be most useful to you. This exercise will allow you to practice conducting different types of searches. Choose of the following scenarios. For each scenario you choose, answer each component as clearly and completely as possible. Compile your responses in a 2–3-page paper in Microsoft Word. Clearly cite your sources. Since we do not cover APA format until , you do not need to use any specific citation format, but you must identify where you found any information you use in your response. Use the following file naming convention for your submission: . For example, if your name is John Smith, name your document . By , deliver your assignment to the .

Treatment options for Schizotypal PD  including psychotherapy and medication. There will be one APA style research paper. This will be a research paper organized as a lit review. You will need a title page and references page but an abstract is NOT necessary. The paper itself should be 3-5 pages (not including the title or references etc) so total it will likely be a 5-7 page paper. Do NOT submit anything more than 10 pages total. Each of you will be assigned a PD to write about and I will also include a  sub-topic or a more specific focus to the paper. You can expand on my topic and incorporate other interesting research and sub-topics but you must stay on the topic assigned. When I say APA, I mean: in-text citations, references pages, good grammar and punctuation, appropriate formatting and flow, 12 point font, double spaced and a title page. Do not use any articles that were writtin before 2000 and TBH you should be looking for things written in the last 10 years.

How you start the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Have you ever woken up late, panicked, and then felt like nothing good happened the rest of the day? This is likely because you started out the day with a negative emotion and . Instead of letting this dominate you, start your day with positive affirmations. Talk to yourself in the mirror, even if you feel silly, with statements like, “Today will be a good day” or “I’m going to be awesome today.” You’ll be amazed how much your day improves. Almost invariably, you’re going to encounter obstacles throughout the day—there’s no such thing as a perfect day. When you encounter such a challenge, focus on the benefits, no matter how slight or unimportant they seem. For example, if you get stuck in traffic, think about how you now have time to listen to the rest of your favorite podcast. If the store is out of the food you want to prepare, think about the thrill of trying something new.

Assignment 2: Crime Control vs. Due Process For many years, New York City suffered from very high rates of both violent and property crime. Analyze whether these programs have been effective. To do this, you will need to locate crime statistics for New York City and determine whether crime and terrorism have increased or decreased. Discuss how these programs relate to the issue of crime control versus due process. Explain how the presence of crime or the potential for terrorism might impact New York economically. Recently, the stop-and-frisk program has been suspended by a federal judge. Do you agree with this decision? Explain your reasoning

Students will search for a professional on the Internet and answer the questions in this assignment.  If a student prefer to interview a professional in the community, the student must obtain approval from the instructor.  The student should consider finding a professional who holds a position and has responsibilities similar to what they envision themselves doing in the future. The interview (answering questions based on biographies on the Web) should focus on the types of assessments this person typically uses in his/her work and how those are selected for particular clients, and how/when the professional received training in or became competent to administer and interpret those instruments. In addition, the students should gather information and advice on how to communicate results to clients, particularly in difficult situations. Students will write a (not including cover page and references) on the information they gathered from the interview, what they learned from the experience, and how they might apply what they learned moving forward in their professional career. The following questions should be incorporated during the interview:

One of the central premises of social psychology is the power of the situation. The very definition of social psychology reflects this, pointing out the influence of others on thoughts, feelings, and actions.  In this discussion, we will consider contextualization by evaluating the fundamental and far-reaching role of culture. To inform your thinking on this topic, begin by reading “Toward a Psychological Science for a Cultural Species” (Heine & Norenzayan, 2006), “Lessons Learned from a Lifetime of Applied Social Psychological Research” (Ross, 2004), and “Reflections on the Stanford Prison Experiment: Genesis, Rransformations, Consequences” (Zimbardo, Maslach, & Haney, 2000). Then, locate a peer-reviewed empirical article (see ) describing a research study that examines a psychological phenomenon from a cultural perspective.  Discuss the research, considering the various elements of a critical review (see ) with reference to/explanation of the more broad social-pychological domain (social thinking, social relations, social influence).  Appraise the role of culture in our psychological understanding of this phenomenon.  Assess the relevance of one “lesson” of applied psychology (Ross, 2004) to your selected study.

Complete the following tests; Test 1: Test 2: Test 3: Print a .pdf file or take a screenshot of your results. Please be sure to include these documents as part of your assignment submission. You should also include a one-page reflection for each personality test. A reflection may include whether you think the test results were an accurate depiction of you, what you thought of the test questions, or thoughts on the trait being measured. Conduct an interview with an older individual and write a four page paper detailing your experience. Ask them to tell you their life story. Begin the paper by describing who you interviewed, how you met them or know them. Based on your interview, assess their personality in terms of Erikson’s developmental theory. Be sure to explain Erikson’s theory as you describe it. How did they resolve the various stages? Where do you believe they fit now? You should also comment on other aspects of their personality, but be sure to spend at least half the paper on Erikson’s theory.

Reply to: Hello everyone, A positive correlation means that when one variable increases, the other increases as well, they basically go hand in hand (Myers & Hansen, 2012). Since it is a positive correlation between ice cream consumption and crime rate during the summer months, it means that both two variables are going to increase when there is a warmer temperature. Some ways that could help to explain this phenomenon would be that when ice cream is being consumed during warmer temperatures, it means that more kids are out of school and that families will most likely go on their summer vacations and be outdoors instead of at home, which could leave homes and other valuables at a higher risk for crime to happen. Humans are influenced by other people. The effects of being socialized in a socio-cultural environment are profound and pervasive. In this Discussion, while taking cultural variables into account, you are asked to consider how group processes may impact individual behavior. For instance, how you conform in your social behavior is influenced by culture and may impact your decisions and your behaviors in many aspects of your life at work, at home, and at play. For example, in some cultures people may adhere to adages such as “the squeaky wheel gets the oil” which emphasizes the role of independent action whereas in other cultures, the adage group members are expected to follow “the nail that sticks out gets pounded down” which emphasizes the value of group cohesion over independence. For this Discussion, you will examine the impact of group culture on individual behavior. Based on the topic you selected, and discuss the findings from your article and indicate how culture may affect individual behavior. Make sure to include group processes and behavior/cognition in your post.

Challenges to cross-cultural research are ample and significant. Pragmatic issues may preclude long term immersion in the culture due to financial issues or lack of sufficient time. Additionally, translation issues may make it difficult to achieve a one–to-one correspondence on questionnaire items used in multiple cultures and languages. Additionally, there are often delicate negotiations across gender, age, status, religious, and economic backgrounds that can involve power and privilege in ways that require careful and appropriate discussion to resolve ethically and to preserve the integrity of the research, researchers, and research participants. As you move forward in your future professional work, take the time to consider the challenges researchers face in light of growing need to further understand the diverse cultures in the world at large. You will find that this type of research will be critically important to further your professional growth and knowledge. For this Discussion, you will examine the challenges to cross-cultural research. and explain three major challenges to conducting cross-cultural research. Then, suggest one way to solve one of the challenges.

In industrial psychology, we call particular qualifications that are enforced in hiring because they are reasonably necessary to the success of a business or enterprise “BFOQ’s” or Bone Fide Occupational Qualifications. An example of a BFOQ would be limiting your selection of a star for a documentary about Korea to an individual who is Korean. Although it is illegal to hire on the basis of race, being Korean may be a BFOQ when hiring for a documentary about Korea. In 1991, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought charges of sexual bias against “Hooters” restaurant chain after identifying approximately 1,400 male applicants who had been turned down for jobs as bartenders, hosts, and waiters by Hooters. Hooters management argued that its employment policy (to hire women) is necessary to maintain the restaurant’s image and that the gender restrictions are BFOQ’s. They argued that the idea of “Hooters guys” just doesn’t make sense. Do you think that being female is a justifiable BFOQ for Hooters’ waitresses? Why or why not? 100 words no citing needed.

Many diabetics do not adhere to treatment programs as they do not get any severe symptoms until years later. This causes people to not fear diabetes which deters to follow a regimen. There are diabetics that do not monitor glucose levels and rely based on how they feel which is not always reliable. Many regimens require the obvious such as diet and exercise which is not always a possibility for many and/or taking proper medication. For those who do not have insurance, they can just afford vials of insulin. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is known as the leading cause of death in the United States. Although diet can have a role in the cause of it, so can your emotions. Having high stress levels and suffering from depression can in fact lead to CHD.  Research has shown that high levels of stres, trauma and acute stress can often lead to a heart attack. With depression, there are studies linked to the heart becoming inflamed which causes plaque to build up on the artery walls.

For this milestone, take your case report from PSY 622 and prepare a that demonstrates use of objective testing data. How do classic and contemporary psychology support the claims you have made in your diagnostic consultation? Make sure your assessment report accounts for the many possible avenues for gathering evidence in legal situations. You will likely rely on memory in some way, so make sure to discuss any limitations that you will bring to your assessment report. If possible, include measures that you learned about in your previous courses as protective mechanisms against the use of memory. Also, make sure you explain why you are using the assessments you selected. This information is often very important should the report be used in a legal proceeding. : Do not simply cut and paste your assessment choices from PSY 622. Incorporate the feedback given to you in that course and expand or change your assessment choices in order to best fit the current scenario. Remember you were hired by a law firm to create the final report.
